Family
I'd like to pause and thank the Lord for such a great wife and child. You don't earn a blessing like that... it's a gift.

Kayak Point
I took Monday off because we spent the weekend at middle school camp. My Monday duties included 34 holes of golf at Kayak Point (I quite 2 holes early to get home) at Kayak Point from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (thank you Beth). They had a deal I couldn't pass up: Breakfast, Lunch, Golf Cart and all the golf you can take for $21. They didn't meantion the additional fee of $10 of golf balls in the woods. It was fun. As usual it was an opportunity to test my faith in front of others thanks to Ray, Mike and Earl (?). Retired guys that kicked my butt on the course. I thank them for the physical and spiritual challenge. How else are you going to grow if you don't practice?
Quest
Had a good time with the kids at the district middle school event. We had a group of 5. My favorite time was at night telling stories with the guys. Those kids crack me up. Ah, the mind of a sixth grader.

Carried
You and I both (assuming you put your pants on one leg at a time) have a tough time in this life. Our inherant selfishness seems to take over way too often. I get the distinct impression that someone else is carrying me through this whole thing... helping me face temptation, helping me think right, helping me survive each wierd day. I catch a glimpse of this every so often or get the feeling that I'm going to be OK. That sure is nice when you are walking through the valley of the shadow of death or you can't quite figure out what's going on.
The older I get, the more I can appreciate the whole idea of grace because I never seem to run out of ways to prove that I'm in need of a strong daily dose of grace.
Thank you for carrying us Jesus.

Friends
Hung out with an old college friend, Christian Morden, yesterday for lunch. Never one to miss an opportunity for making a good first impression I left my wallet at work. That is one of the oldest tricks in the book and one of the most pathetic. Oops. Thanks for lunch Christian!

Golf
42 was the final count after 9 holes for me on Sunday. Best ever. Double that for 18 holes and thats only 12 over par. Cool. My driver finally works (kinda). I'm hitting it in the general direction of the green, not the next fairway over. I took a couple or maybe more than a couple mulligans but thats the way I play right now.
I met this really cool guy after I finished and we are going to hit the course together some time. Should be fun. Thats what I want right now... unforced and natural friendships that aren't defined for me. It is so freeing to meet someone randomly, strike up a conversation and see what God does. Do I have an agenda for this guy? No, I don't want him to be burdened with a list of rules defined for him by the establishment. But yes, I want him to be free. He's gotta meet this man called Jesus.

True
When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.

Uhhh...
I don't think I've ever been more embarrassed for someone on the internet than when I found this youth group site.

Over Coffee
I spent a little time with a friend of mine over coffee this morning. We were talking about how old school witnessing (memorizing the four spiritual laws, ee, the romans road, etc.) can be fake. It doesn't let people see our "humanness." We need to communicate the reality of the gospel lived out through the good and bad in us... yes, this will include our words and perhaps some of the scriptures that are contained in any of the "systems" listed above. We are to let our light shine, not putting it under a bowl, through our actions, attitude, lifestyle and heart. We should not be afraid to let the person within be seen by the world. Honesty is so vital. This would be the opposite of the "never let them see you sweat" slogan made famous by a pitstick manufacturer. Remember that Jesus let them see him bleed.
